Innovative Wellington-made technology to protect the rail line while building the Ngā Ūranga ki Pito-One (Ngauranga to Petone) section of Te Ara Tupua, the project to improve State Highway 2’s resilience and build a walking and cycling path between Wellington and Lower Hutt.
Working with KiwiRail, using a digital shield—GPS technology that works like an invisible fence along the rail line, preventing machinery such as diggers and trucks from getting too close to the train tracks and overhead wires. This means trains can keep running while workers are building the new path.
Thanks to the digital shield, people will get to see construction underway while safely inside the train on their way to or from Lower Hutt!
