Green lights for Sydney Gateway
Do you remember when those 100 metre-long, 600 tonne twin bridge spans were lifted into place at Sydney Gateway? all in a complex live international airport environment!
The city-changing Sydney Gateway road network has forever transformed how Australia’s biggest city connects to our biggest airport precinct, and it officially opens to live traffic tomorrow.
Let’s recap on this truly transformational project and highlight what Sydney Gateway has delivered:
🛣️ 5 kilometres of new roadway
🌉 19 bridges – including one that’s wider than the Sydney Harbour Bridge
🛬 a flyover road to Domestic terminals
🚦a direct connection from the airport to St Peters interchange…
… which means there’s just one set of traffic lights between the airport and St Peters interchange, cutting almost 20 minutes off the travel time!
To add to the benefits, $2.2 billion was injected into the local economy with small businesses supplying goods and services to the project.
And all of this was delivered without disruption to the international flight zone, meaning huge coordination from the team with Seymour Whyte to have many of the pre-cast components moved into place during nighttime hours.
