Check out the final pair of steel beams being lifted into place on a bridge being built for Te Ahu a Turanga: Manawatū Tararua Highway.

All 42 beams are now in place on the Eco-Viaduct bridge, one of six bridges on the project. It’s a huge milestone for the team—they’ve overcome significant challenges to get this 305-metre-long bridge to this point.

Construction of the bridge was delayed for 14 months due to workers encountering unprecedented water pressure when piling in the ground, but once a solution was found they made swift progress to get the bridge back on schedule.

Moving these 47-metre-long beams through a busy construction site was another challenge—but with this last pair now in place, workers can now start building the bridge deck. In the video you can see the team in the background preparing panels to have concrete poured on them—these’ll form the bridge deck.
