Exhibition station construction update
Exhibition station will be operational during EKKA 2022 for people wishing to catch the train into the Brisbane Showgrounds. Timetables are available on the TransLink website and by calling 13 12 30.
In August and September, installation of masts and foundations for overhead electrical wires will continue and demolition of the existing Exhibition station will commence shortly after the EKKA.
Details of work
The following activities are scheduled to occur between 6:30am and 6:30pm, Monday to Saturday during August and
September 2022, weather and construction conditions permitting:
Installation of mast foundations and structures for overhead electrical lines, cable routes and pits within the rail
corridor between Campbell Street and south of Bowen Bridge Road
Rock excavation within the rail corridor between Campbell Street and Bowen Bridge Road
Demolition of the existing Exhibition station and platform after EKKA 2022
Earthworks for retaining wall backfill between O’Connell Terrace and Bowen Bridge Road
Construction of critical signalling infrastructure
Surveying and investigating underground services, such as water, electricity and gas
Track work and maintenance.
Out of hours work
Additional activities will occur outside the project’s normal working hours, as outlined below:
Location – Spring Hill and Bowen Hills
Date and hours of work – Intermittently between 6:00pm and 6:00am throughout August and September 2022
Type of work – Concrete deliveries and pours; Installation of cable routes and pits within the rail corridor including pulling new cables in conduits; Minor earthworks to support signalling installation; Track work and maintenance.
Location – Roma Street to Bowen Hills
Date and hours of work – Intermittently between 2:00am Saturday 20 and 2:30am
Sunday 22 August 2022
Type of work – Installation of overhead electrical structures, signalling equipment, cable routes and pits within the rail corridor; Track work and maintenance.
Location – Roma Street to Bowen Hills
Date and hours of work – Intermittently between 2:00am Saturday 3 and 2:00am Monday 12 September 2022
Type of work – Demolition of the existing Exhibition station and platform; Installation of overhead electrical structures, signalling equipment, cable routes and pits within the rail corridor; Track work and maintenance.

What to expect
During these works you may notice some intermittent disruptions such as:
Light vehicles, trucks and machinery including excavators with hydraulic hammers, mobile cranes, small power
tools, drills, saws, minor vibrating equipment and mobile lighting towers to light the work areas at night
Use of large machinery such as excavators with hydraulic hammers to remove rock and concrete structures
around Exhibition station and load material into trucks for transport
Changes around your local area such as construction vehicles, traffic management signs and personnel
Intermittent closures of the pedestrian underpass beneath Exhibition station. Please follow the signage and
directions of traffic control in the area
Increased levels of noise, vibration and dust associated with the use of heavy machinery and equipment
Access into the rail corridor will be via the Victoria Park access road, Bowen Bridge Road, Lanham Street and O’Connell Terrace via the RNA Showgrounds.
July 2022 – Track construction was complete on the new Exhibition station rail bridge running through the RNA Showgrounds.
