Rail Head

Définition: The top running surface of a railway rail that bears the weight of train wheels. Rail heads wear gradually and must be monitored for loss of cross-section. Modern rails typically have hardened top surfaces to resist wear.

Exemple: Rail head wear of 8mm/1000 train miles is typical on heavy-haul lines
