Accessing the Rail Corridor

ARTC share boundaries with thousands of landowners in metropolitan and country areas adjoining the 8,500kms of track we own, and also grant access to the rail corridor to Councils, utility providers and other organisations. Maintaining safety for everyone is critical.

If you need to access the rail corridor, we have to make sure safety and legal arrangements are in place. Access is highly regulated to ensure safety. You’ll need to fill out the relevant application form, as outlined below.

Our property team is there to support you and will work through the application process with you. We can help with the following:

  • Requests to enter into the rail corridor for utility providers, Councils, individuals and companies doing surveys or to install cables, pipes and wires etc.
  • Leasing of railway land and buildings
  • New rail siding connections
  • Land ownership matters including easements
  • Heritage matters
  • Road and rail interfaces such as private level crossings
  • Building near or next to the railway
