Types of Track Possessions

The interstate rail network covered by the undertaking includes the mainline standard gauge track linking Kalgoorlie in Western Australia, Adelaide, Wolseley and Crystal Brook in South Australia, Melbourne and Wodonga in Victoria and Broken Hill, Cootamundra, Albury, Macarthur, Southern Sydney Freight Line, Moss Vale, Unanderra, Newcastle (to the Queensland border) and Parkes in New South Wales. ARTC Network Map – (Annexure 1, 2, 3 & 4 of Schedule E of the 2013 IAU)

Here you will find illustrative maps showing a geographical description of the Network covered by the undertaking in the form of the annexures to Schedule E of the 2013 IAU as amended by ARTC from time to time. The precise details of the Network will change over the duration of the Undertaking but not in such a way as to be inconsistent with the textual descriptions in Schedule E of the 2013 IAU.

WA, SA, VIC – Section Lengths

For each ARTC section (bounded by crossing loop locations, junctions etc), length of the section in kilometres.This information is contained at Appendix IV of TA02

WA, SA, VIC – Crossing Loops

For each Crossing Loop location on the ARTC Network, the number of loops and the length (in metres) of each loop.This information is contained at Appendix II of TA02

WA, SA, VIC – Track Type

For each part of the ARTC Network, weight of rail, type of sleeper used and type of fastening used. This information is currently being prepared and will be made available in the near future.

WA, SA, VIC – Safeworking and Signalling Type

For each part of the network, the method of safeworking employed and, where appropriate, system of signalling used. This information is contained at Section 6 of TA02

WA, SA, VIC – Network Capability

For each part of the ARTC Network, maximum allowable speeds and axle loads, train length limits, and height and width limits (in gauge).

  • Maximum allowable speeds are contained at Section 11 of TA02.
  • Length limits are contained at Section 12 of TA02.
  • Train Height and Width maximums (in gauge) are contained at Section 13 of TA02.
  • Axle load limits are contained at Section 23 of TA02.

WA, SA, VIC – Permanent Speed Restrictions

For each part of the ARTC Network, location and restricted speed for each permanent speed restriction. Permanent Speed Restriction information is contained at Appendix I of TA02

WA, SA, VIC – Structure Clearances

For each part of the ARTC Network, location and horizontal and vertical clearance (in metres) of Network structures.

Structure Clearance Information is contained at Appendix XI of TA02.

For each part of the ARTC Network, location and type of structure. Bridges & Structures information is contained at Appendix VI of TA02.
