Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) has announced the Emerging Preferred Route for Luas Cork and is inviting the public to share feedback on the proposed plan. The consultation will run for eight weeks, closing at 5:30 pm on Monday, 9th June.
Why Luas Cork Matters
Cork is projected to be Ireland’s fastest-growing city over the next two decades, with its population set to increase by 50–60%. To support this growth, high-quality public transport infrastructure like Luas Cork is essential. The project will play a vital role in:
-
Enabling large-scale regeneration, including the Cork City Docklands development.
-
Delivering 20,000 new homes and 25,000 jobs at Kennedy Quay (4.2-acre site).
A Transformative Vision for Cork’s Transport
Hugh Creegan, Interim CEO of the National Transport Authority (NTA), emphasized:
*“Luas Cork is central to the Cork Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy (CMATS). Alongside BusConnects Cork, heavy rail upgrades, and improved cycling/walking infrastructure, this marks a new era of sustainable mobility—helping Cork become a more accessible, connected, and vibrant city.”*
