Preparations are well underway for the arrival of the tunnel boring machines on the North East Link project, with structural works now completed to support the TBM gantry rails and haul roads reconfigured to accommodate future TBM disassembly operations.
Above ground, the Motorway Control Centre is beginning to take shape in a distinctly Australian architectural statement. Structural timber is now being installed, with the building set to feature plantation oak across both the Level 1 structure and façade. More than 110 tonnes of timber will be used in the construction, sourced from Tasmania and fabricated in Heyfield, Victoria by Australian Sustainable Hardwoods. The exposed timber beams and columns will become a striking architectural feature once the building reaches completion, blending sustainable materials with contemporary infrastructure design.
In the north of the project, the Alternative Motorway Control Centre is approaching a significant milestone, nearing its full height of 49 metres, marking continued progress across multiple fronts of this major Victorian infrastructure project.
